Issue date: 9/11/07 Section: News
"Re-Cycling is a community-wide project and it is not exclusively for artists or art majors," Schooler said.

Through a word-of-mouth campaign fraternities, sororities, clubs, organizations and even dorm floors have all been encouraged to submit proposals by Sept. 20.

"Our goal is to not only create art that is aesthetically pleasing but create something that will benefit the community as a whole," Schooler said. "The community needs to feel like these bikes aren't just for the art students or the clubs who painted them, but for everyone."

The council also said they hope the community involvement would decrease the chances of mischief toward the bikes.

"We're really going to need to the community's help on this one," said junior Julie Rooney. "If the community helps design the bikes I think we are going to have less of a problems with theft and vandalism."

Schooler added that he's hoping that their bikes will be so wild and creative that it will be impossible for any one person to claim ownership over them.
