A Dell Help Desk employee passed away Sunday due to a traffic collision.
William Lee Gooch III, 23, was a BMC employee contracted by the laptop initiative. He worked at the Dell Help Desk in Information Services in the Union Building.
According to the Indianapolis Star, Gooch was ejected from a 2002 Lincoln on I-70 on 3:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Though not actually employed by the University, Gooch was active on campus. He played 'Noon Hoops' - lunchtime basketball - with faculty and staff members. Deborah Salman, Gooch's coworker, recalls him as a quiet, thoughtful person, who she felt honored to know.
"He'll be missed by those whose lives he touched," Salman said.
Fellow Dell Help Desk employee P.J. Majors considered him a "true friend."
Gooch's student co-workers remember him as kind and personable, with a great sense of humor.
"If you needed a laugh, he'll get you one," said senior LaVaughn Johnson.
Services for Gooch will be held Saturday, March 1, at 12 p.m. at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
