Energy Wars ingrain environmental habits
Issue date: 4/8/08 Section: Editorial
The Energy Wars going on all this month among four campus dorms is an imaginative way to promote common-sense environmentalism. Rather than forcing any changes on students that could be seen as intrusion, the campaign asks members of the DePauw community to take the small steps that can add up to big consequences. Remembering to turn off lights and making a conscious effort to use just a little less water are the types of environmental consciousness that even the most apathetic people can easily get into the habit of doing - especially when there's a t-shirt (and dorm pride) at stake.
Hopefully, the effort to lessen DePauw's carbon footprint won't be restricted to the four competing dorms. We encourage the entire campus to embrace the spirit behind the Energy Wars and take the little steps to help our environment. It can take less than a month to form a habit, and this month has the potential to shape campus practices beyond this semester.
