Keelin Kelly, a junior environmental club member, helped to bring Paul Gipe to DePauw. Kelly interned with the environmental policy project this summer and contacted Gipe in regard to a question she had about the feed-in tariff policy. They began talking and she realized that he was already planning a trip to Fort Wayne to give a presentation on wind energy. She asked him if he wouldn't mind coming to DePauw on the way and he agreed.

"Politicians talk a lot about reducing our dependence on fossil fuels but they don't really give us a good plan to get there," Kelly said.

Gipe ended his presentation by telling the audience how they can start small projects in Indiana to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels. He said that the first thing needed is community involvement; without community involvement there is no way that a project can be developed.

Senior Landon Jones originally went to Paul Gipe's talk for extra credit for a class, but by the end of the presentation was glad that he came.

"It just turned out to be really interesting. He definitely put it in a more conscious perspective to a person who doesn't know much about wind energy. I had a very simplistic view of it and he showed me the details behind it," Jones said.
