New store on square offers change of pace

This summer, Greencastle welcomed a new store on the square: Old Skool Free Spirit.
Husband and wife duo Keith and Roxanne Dailey, originally from Indianapolis, said they decided to open the store because "there wasn't something like it here."
The store opened on June 1, and is located at 15 South Indiana St., just across from The Blue Door Cafe.
Of the free-spirited vibe of the store, Roxanne Dailey said, "We thought DePauw students and residents of the community would like something different."
Unlike other Greencastle retailers, Old Skool Free Spirit carries 60s-era clothing and jewelry, new age books and home accessories, palm readings and an array of incense and tobacco products. Palm readings are scheduled by appointment, which can be made at the store.
"Our inventory is every changing," said Keith Dailey. "We don't come in with the same boring stuff day in and day out."
The couple also sees the store as a spiritual space - the atmosphere is warm and inviting, with comfortable chairs and a laid-back ambience.
"We look at it as a spiritual store where anyone can come in and get off of the street," said Roxanne Dailey. "People can get out of the world for a minute and be in a happy place."
The Daileys said they are planning on expanding their services, as well.
"Later, we plan to have art classes once a month and to get a coffee maker," said Roxanne Dailey.
The store is currently open Tuesday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
"We might start opening up a little earlier. We're just feeling it out right now," said Roxanne Dailey.

Thanks Jessica for doing the piece on the store. It was very helpful in getting our name out to the DePauw community.
