Junior Shelby Evans, 21, died June 7 in her sleep at her home in Carmel, Ind. She was unresponsive after multiple attempts to be woken. The cause of Evans' death is unconfirmed.
Evans was a member of the Management Fellows program and served as a depauw.year1 mentor during her sophomore year. A member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, Evans served on the chapter's executive board for the past semester.
In an e-mail to the student staff of the depauw.year1 program, Associate Dean of Students Cara Setchell wrote, "Shelby was a tremendously wonderful person who deeply touched the lives of so many."
In a statement on the DePauw University Web site, President Brian Casey expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Evans.
"The entire DePauw community mourns for Shelby and sends its sympathies to her family and many friends. Shelby made a lasting impact on our campus in the two years she studied and lived at DePauw and she will be deeply missed," Casey said.
