Packing up a dorm room or apartment for the summer is a sign of warm weather and no homework. However, it can also be a stressful task if you have too much to move or things you don't want.
In order to help students solve this problem, Resident Student Association is sponsoring a yard sale and barbecue on Friday, May 8 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Bowman Park.
RSA has had an end of the year barbecue in years past, but they "wanted to try and add something different," said sophomore Patrick Legendre, a member of RSA.
If the event is successful, RSA plans to put it on again next year.
"The whole barbecue and yard sale is free, and students can either sell or buy their stuff," Legendre said.
The garage sale is not a charity event - all sales are student to student. However, students are encouraged to donate any unsold items to Good Will.
While the event was originally planned to help students, especially those that are graduating, sell appliances and other items they will not need next year, the event is open is the entire Greencastle community.
"Everyone is welcome to participate. We've put up signs in gas stations and places in the community," Legendre said.
As of right now, a total of about eight students have signed up to sell appliances.
"Trying to get people to sign up and sell their stuff on tables has been the most challenging thing so far," Legendre said.
RSA "is taking late sign-ups" and encourages more students and community members to sign up to sell items they no longer need. Anyone interested in selling something at a table should e-mail Carly Halon at carlyhalon_2009@depauw.edu or Legendre at patricklegendre_2011@depauw.edu.
The scheduled rain location for the yard sale is the patio outside of the Lilly Center.
