Kappa coverage focuses
on sensationalism
I was disappointed by the cover of last Tuesday's issue of The DePauw. It chose to highlight Kappa Kappa Gamma's recent probationary status on the front page, which appeared as a very small article within the issue. However Kappa Kappa Gamma's second victory in Energy Wars was not addressed on the cover at all, even though the article was at least twice as long as the probation article.
I am concerned about the fact that The DePauw seems to have fallen prey to sensationalism in choosing to feature the negative over the good that Kappa Kappa Gamma has done. Not only was the Energy Wars article longer, it also focused on an issue that is constructive to our campus culture. It involved the efforts of our whole chapters for two semesters rather than an isolated incident concerning a boulder run by a few individuals. It is a pity that The DePauw could not rise above playing to the public's taste for the scandalous, when it is a free publication which should not need to stoop to such sensationalism. I hope in the future The DePauw will look to stress the productive over the derogatory to the benefit of the University as a whole.

Thanks for a great
four years, DePauw
Oreos, U2, a book of quotations, several mugs, my camera, many papers, a box of Yorkshire tea and my little clay turtle (Edwin) are all just about to push me off my own desk. My bed is half made-up; it is covered by clothes, a poster of Churchill that fell off my wall, my journals filled with notes in hurried handwriting, letters and a package from Teach for America. Above the mess, my window is open and a robin sings outside. I see Little Rock Apartments and East College, while tulips and lilacs paint the scene. Someone in a DePauw hoodie walks by, while a pickup truck rumbles along. I'm trying to prioritize my evening, go out tonight and try to small talk without asking the dreaded question, "Well, what's after graduation?", work on my paper, study for exams, start organizing my final presentation, sit still and reflect on DPU.
