Daniel Meyer will take over as Vice President of Admissions and Financial Aid at DePauw on March 1.

He appears to be a perfect fit for the position, considering his extensive admissions experience at St. Mary's College. Like DePauw, St. Mary's is a small liberal arts school in Indiana.

There is one major difference Meyer will encounter, though. Unlike St. Mary's, an all-female college, he will have to work hard to attract both males and females to DePauw. Fortunately, Meyer welcomes this new challenge.

"I think one of the main reasons I have a desire to join the DePauw community is that it is a co-ed, Division III environment that brings me back into my comfort zone," Meyer said. "The one thing I really miss is a lot of our social and athletic opportunities don't take place on campus because they take place next door [at Notre Dame University.]"

Meyer comes to DePauw with over 30 years of experience of higher education admissions. He previously worked for Albion College, St. Norbert College and Alfred University. He arrived at St. Mary's in 2005 and currently serves as its vice president for enrollment management.

His widespread experience is one reason why President Brian Casey believes Meyer stood out from other applicants.

"He was clearly the strongest candidate in terms of knowing both sides of this enterprise: the financial aid side and admissions side," Casey said. "The financial aid side of admissions has become so remarkably complex that I needed to know someone from day one could come in and really manage that part of the enterprise."

Additionally, Meyer gained an edge over other applicants with a recommendation from a trusted college president close to President Casey: Wabash College's Pat White. President White previously worked with Meyer at St. Mary's.

This strong recommendation, along with recommendations from the two faculty committees, landed Meyer in Greencastle with his wife and four children.
