John Drake, a member of the class of 2010, passed away Monday after battling a serious illness for 10 months. Drake, an economics major and Management Fellow, was unable to attend DePauw this past year.

As part of the Management Fellows Program, Drake interned for First Internet Bank in the fall of 2009.

"I'd actually talked to him and his supervisor and [Drake] did a wonderful job at First Internet Bank," Gary Lemon, director of the Management Fellows Program, said. "After that he told me the cancer had reoccurred, but that he was going to beat it."

Lemon said that Drake will be remembered for his positive attitude.

"His illness was very serious from the beginning," Lemon said, "but he always had a really positive attitude and can-do spirit."

Referencing both Drake and Shelby Evans, a member of the class of 2011 and Management Fellow who passed away in summer 2009, Lemon said that both deaths are serious tragedies within the DePauw community.

"You just don't think of people between 18 and 22 years old not making it," he said. "It's been a tough time, and we're really going to miss them."
